Some good news and bad news came from MxO headquarters at WB, Monolith and Sega today.
Along with the news, there was an interview with Jason Hall, one of the lead team designers working on the WB side of things.

Check out this thread for more details:

MxO had an interview with William Westwater of OGaming last week.

Here's a snippet from the first part of the interview:

"The Matrix represents an alternative perspective on character progress..."

I just dropped the full interview in the MxO forums, check it out.

Division: AMO
Posted by: Kiseit
That's right all, Matrix Online beta begins today...make sure you check those email addys...something might be there!

More info on it from the MxO team:

I understand everyone's exitement about beta testing beginning today. However, posting thread after thread saying "Geez I hope I get an email" isn't going to change what's already been stated:

1) The first wave of testers is small.

2) Beta testers can't talk about getting in on the boards.

3) No one promised to post when waves of testers would be allowed in. I said I'd check into it, nothing more.

If you want to chat about your beta hopes and fears, put it in the Beta Buzz sticky-thread on the General boards. Other threads talking about beta are going to be locked, as they're just spamming up the boards.

Again: Beta does begin today with a small number of testers. More will be added as needed. Please do not fill up the boards with threads about waiting for emails--that's what the Beta Buzz thread is for.

We're excited about the beginning of testing, too. Let's just try and keep it orderly.

Thanks,

5/19/2004 6:05:06 AM Subject: Beta Announcements...
Division: AMO

June 1st is quickly approaching. The date that everyone (who is eagerly awaiting this game...) held their breath for last week during E3 was announced during the middle part of the week.
Beta system reqs have also been seen floating around the Matrix Online forums.

Beta will be shipping via 3 cd's, and at this current time has no available download. (This might be due to the fact that they wanted testers to have around 8-10GB's free)

Rumors have been flying rapidly, even leading to one false beta email that was posted on the Matrix Online forums last week. At E3, it was said that they (Monolith, WB, and now Sega) were going to try to have beta announcements out by the end of next week at the latest, to allow time for shipping before beta actually starts.

Rumors have also been heard that since this first phase of beta is North American (US and Canada) only, that all beta applicants will get it. This was suggested when a number came from E3 suggesting they wanted around 7000 users in the first phase alone. It has been said that there weren't even that many applicants from the upper half of North America, so everyone will be getting in.

As Steve has stated before, I'm as diligent as ever in covering MxO and it's release.
Now that I know (thanks to Steve for correcting me...) to post news in here, and not on the forums, I'll be posting, for all of AH's pretty eyes to see.
